I am writing to you as part of Riverside County's periodic updates on the Sky Valley property owned by Mary Bernadette Schwenn.
The Riverside County Department of Animal Services continues to visit this site on a daily basis to observe and check on the welfare of dogs. After a report of puppies on the property July 19, animal services officers visited the property that afternoon. Ms. Schwenn refused to admit that there were puppies on the property and refused access. In accordance with the law, the department issued a notice of violation ordering her to remove the puppies from the property by 9 a.m. today, July 20.
This morning, the department entered the property and located the puppies. They impounded 6 puppies and their mother with no incident. All appear in good health. The department noticed Ms. Schwenn of the impound.
This is good news for the puppies. As newborns, they were at risk outside in that setting but they are now in a safe place. We will continue pursuing criminal and civil sanctions to ensure the safety of all animals. Updates to follow.
