FY 2011-2012 County Budget

Budget Update

On June 13, 2011, the Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a recommended $4.8 billion budget for Fiscal Year 2011-2012.  Of that amount, $630.3 million is discretionary spending that the Board directly controls, a significant drop from the 2009-10 level of $744 million.  The budget will be considered for final adoption September 13.

Many contacted me about the possibility of layoffs in the Sheriff's Department.  Key to averting these layoffs in this budget was $11.3 million in salary and benefit reductions imposed on the Riverside Sheriffs' Association.  While opposed by the union, the savings - along with Prop 172 reserve funding - protected jobs and helped bring the sheriff's budget into near balance.
