Thermal and Vista Santa Rosa are inseparable. Literally. The Board of Supervisors created a new community in 1999 by dividing Thermal in half and designating the western portion Vista Santa Rosa. This was because, previous to the split, the community was so large as to be unwieldy, not to mention the two “halves” had decidedly different issues. The old town center in Thermal remains the focal point of the community, but it’s becoming increasingly difficult to ignore the dynamic Jacqueline Cochran Airport—physically one of the largest in Riverside County, and rapidly growing as a favorite for jet-setters. A brand new Horse Shows in The Sun (“HITS”) facility draws thousands of visitors in the winter, and Thermal will soon be home to a multi-million dollar East-Valley Sheriff’s station, complete with aviation component and a satellite facility for the Palm Springs Air Museum.
