"TRASHBUSTER DAY" East Valley Community Clean-Up
MECCA - Organizers of the October 7th Eastern Coachella Valley Trashbusters Clean-up anticipate this gathering to be the largest yet, as the communities of Mecca, Oasis, Thermal, North Shore are getting together to beautify their communities.
Volunteers, backed by the County of Riverside, Burrtec Waste and Recycling Services, Riverside County Fire CDF, Southern Coachella Valley Community Services District, and others, will start at 8 a.m. and finish up at noon.
To celebrate the event and reward the volunteers, the Riverside County Fire Department will host a barbecue with raffles and music afterwards for all participants at the Mecca Fire Station.
"Our Community Clean-ups are a time for families and neighbors to take pride in their community," said County Supervisor Roy Wilson. "This is a great chance for residents to help beautify their area, and have some fun doing it. I always enjoy participating."
During the cleanup, residents can take their trash to the collection sites located at Avenue 63 and Highway 111 (TOM Site), and the Mecca Fire Station located on 4th St. and Hammond Rd. Household waste can be disposed of at these locations, but hazardous waste and tires will not be accepted. For more information on disposal of hazardous waste, residents can call Household Hazardous Waste Hotline at 1-800-304-2226
In order to be able to take trash to the collection site, proof of residence in Mecca, Thermal,
Oasis, North Shore
(driver’s license or utility bill) is required.
Garbage bags, T-shirts and work gloves will be given to volunteers who help clean up public areas within the community. Groups will also get together to clean community houses for disabled or elderly people needing a helping hand as well as illegal dumped trash on the roadside.
