Desert Permit Assistance Center:Need a Little Assistance Finding It?

March 3, 2008; Denys Acury

The County of Riverside - Has a brand new "Desert Permit Assistance Center" in the Coachella Valley, in order to more effectively serve the needs of an increasing desert population.

Under the roof of the new facility-located in the Desert Business Park off of Washington street-are most of the functions of the Transportation and Land Management Agency (TLMA), including the Planning, Transportation and Building & Safety Departments. Also at the same location are the Department of Environmental Health Services and the Fire Department's Plan Check Division.

"It's sort of a one-stop operation for residents to conduct all of their business relating to community development," says TLMA Regional Office Manager Bob Lyman. "It's not only more convenient for residents . . . but our staff is more efficient in this enhanced environment."

Conveniently located? Heck yes. Easy to find the first time? Well . . . that may provide a challenge to the directionally-impaired. The official address is 38686 El Cerrito Road, Palm Desert 92211. However, to get there, it's best to take Washington north of the freeway, left on Las Montanas, and into the Canyon National Bank parking lot. Once you've made it that far, the Desert Permit Assistance Center is the building closest to the bank. A global positioning satellite might help out.
