Dedication and Ribbon Cutting for Palm Village Apartments
The City of Palm Desert officially cut the ribbon on the new Palm Village Apartments complex this morning.
The 36-unit development, located at 73650 Santa Rosa Way, is designed for lower and moderate income families, with special attention to the needs of the handicapped.
Mayor Richard Kelly, Mayor Pro Tem Jean Benson, Supervisor Roy Wilson and City Manager Carlos Ortega were all on hand to celebrate the completion of the $8.5 million project. Funding was provided mainly by the Palm Desert Redevelopment Agency, with a $600,000 federal "Home Funds" grant provided by the County of Riverside.
Two of the units are fully handicapped accessible, with two others designed specifically for people with sensory impairments. In addition, the remaining ground floor apartments can be easily adapted for handicapped use. The city was thinking "green," and so the apartments feature a wide range of built-in energy efficiencies.
The grounds include a common area for children's play equipment, laundry facilities and covered parking. The landscaping features drought tolerant plants and palm trees that were originally located along Fred Waring Drive.
Palm Village Apartments offers low and moderate income families affordable housing in a quiet neighborhood, yet close to shopping an other services.
