COD Breaks Ground on Barker Foundation Nursing Complex
COD's nursing program is the most established and successful training program in the Coachella Valley for registered nurses, vocational nurses and Emergency Medical Technicians.
Today that program got a shot in the arm, as the new Coeta and Don Barker Foundation Nursing Complex on the north side of the COD Campus received its official groundbreaking. The complex is named after the Coeta and Don Barker Foundation, which donated $2 million for the project.
The complex features new buildings with state-of-the-art classrooms and laboratories for students and faculty. This addition will go a long way in increasing COD's capacity and ability to train additional nurses and EMT's who are then hired by local healthcare facilities and agencies.
The colleges Division of Health Services prepares students for careers in health-related occupations, and educational pathways include both theoretical instruction on campus and clinical experience in local hospitals and clinics.
Among the dignitaries wielding a golden shovel at the event: College President Jerry Patton; Dr. Leslie Young, interim Dean of the Health Sciences Division; Dr. Ward Fredericks, President of the COD Foundation Board; and Nancy Harris, Executive Director of the Coeta and Donald Barker Foundation.
