Velez to Step Down as Head of CV Trails Alliance
LeGrand Velez, founder and director of the Coachella Valley Trails Alliance, has announced his acceptance of a position as senior environmental planner with LSA Associates in Palm Springs.
"I regret that I can no longer work full-time for the Coachella Valley Community Trails Alliance, but remain committed to the vision," Velez said in an e-mail announcement. "I will continue to be a member of the Riverside County Trails Committee and the Desert Trails Coalition."
Velez says that he will serve as acting Director of the Trails Alliance on a volunteer basis until a replacement is found. The Alliance, he says will continue to "...work towards our mission of creating an urban regional trail network that provides safe forridors for non-motorized transportation and recreation, and that integrates the urban environment with our outstanding natural environment.
The Trails Alliance has many on-going projects, including the Coachella Valley Urban Trails and Bikeways Map, Indio Trails Feasibility Study, La Quinta Cove Trails Assessment and others.
"Community Support (volunteer and financial) will be even more important while we are without full-time staff."
Velez was the sole employee of the Trails Alliance, a registered non-profit organization. For more information on the Coachella Valley Trails Alliance, see our Oct. 17 story here: http://www.rivco4.org/web/news/archive/200710/news_0149.html
