Desiree Porras named Queen Scheherazade During 62nd Annual Pageant
Indio High School's Senior Class President has been named the 62nd Queen Scheherazade, and will reign over the 2008 Riverside County Fair and National Date Festival.
Desiree Porras was selected as queen during last Saturday's Pageant, sponsored by the City of Indian Wells, at the Fullenwider Auditorium. A total of 12 young women competed for the chance to be queen and for scholarships of $3,000 and $3,500.
Queen Scheherazade's Court also includes Princess Dunyazade, Courtney Lee of La Quinta High; and Princess Jasmine, Rita Sandoval of Desert Hot Springs High. All three young women are very active in their respective high schools, and all three have outstanding academic records. Rita Sandoval was Miss Desert Hot Springs 2007-2008.
The new Queen and her court will serve as ambassadors for the Riverside County Fair and National Date Festival, and their duties include promoting the Fair at various city Council meetings, parades and other special appearances.
