Jaqueline Cochran Air Show Sets Attendance Record

Jacqueline Cochran Air Show

In the four years of its existence, the Jacqueline Cochran Air Show in Thermal has quickly become one of the top attractions on the Fourth District annual calendar. Held the first Saturday of November each year, remarkably warm and beautiful weather has been the norm . . . and the entertainment would be spectacular, even if you had to pay for it (which you don't).

This year's event featured an amped-up military presence with two United States Air Force F-16s and two U.S. Navy FA 18s performing. Fortunately, the largest crowd ever showed up for their performance. An estimated 35,000 enjoyed the show this year.

The Patriots jet demonstration team once again performed their precision maneuvers (they're the country's only privately-owned jet demonstration team), and a host of aerobatic and legacy aircraft also went through their paces. Also, as in the past, there was a pancake breakfast, static vintage aircraft, food booths, kids' area and more.

You know that spectacular parachute display with 20 jumpers, the last one landing with Old Glory flapping proudly? Well, next year, expect them to return with 80 jumpers! So mark your calendars now for next year's spectacular. That's November, er, well, we don't have our 2008 calendar in front of us . . . but remember, it's always the first Saturday in November.

See you next year!
