County offers free e-alerts and other information
With fires still smoldering in Southern California and Santa Ana winds on the horizon, Riverside County debuted an Internet-based tool today that sends email alerts about emergencies, as well a host of other information about county operations. And Fourth District residents, while spared the fury of the recent fires and winds, need to remain vigilant since earthquakes, flooding and other unforeseen events can as easily strike the east side of the Pass.
Riverside County eAlert Subscription Service allows people with an email address and Internet access to select categories of information that interest them. The eAlert system routinely checks county web pages for changes involving topics that subscribers select and then automatically notifies subscribers when new information is available.
The service is free to subscribers, who must provide a zip code in order to register. Zip codes enable the county to provide alerts and information during emergencies to residents living in affected areas.
"This service represents a significant enhancement of our ability to keep people informed," said Supervisor Roy Wilson. "As our new District website indicates, we are striving diligently to ensure we're doing all we can to reach out to residents."
Subscribers can sign up to receive alerts covering more than 100 categories ranging from activities at individual libraries to schedules for childhood immunization outreach clinics to job opportunities. To receive notices, go to http://rivco-ealert.com on the Internet and follow instructions on the subscription form.
The service was designed and operated by MIS Sciences Corp. of Burbank.
