National Date Festival to Feature Rimes, Blues Traveler

Well, it’ll soon be 2008, and soon after that it will be February, and February brings one of the best entertainment events of the year in these parts, and that would be the Riverside County Fair and National Date Festival.

Headlining acts this year include LeAnn Rimes on Saturday, February 16, Los Tiranos del Norte on Sunday, February 17, Blues Traveler on Monday, February 18 and Heart on Saturday, February 23.

And that’s just the executive summary of some of the best entertainment the Fair and Fest has had for years. There are bands paying tribute to the McGuire Sisters, the Beatles and the Beach Boys.

Desert dwellers who have been going to the Riverside County Fair and National Date Festival for years know all about the camels and the ostriches and Queen Scheherazade and the wonderful (and sometimes wacky) food. Plus, the pig races, the Arabian Nights Pageant (nightly, it turns out), monster trucks, ballet folklorico, belly dancers. You haven’t heard about the pig races?

Perhaps the best news of all: noted meteorologist Roy Wilson is predicting beautiful weather throughout the Date Fest’s 10-run, February 15 through Sunday, February 24.
