Ground Breaks on Dillon Road Grade Separation
Ceremonies were held Tuesday to celebrate the groundbreaking of a nearly $18 million grade separation project design to ease both car and train traffic in the Dillon Road/Grapefruit Blvd. Corridor.
The Cities of Indio and Coachella each contributed a half million dollars to the cost of the $17.6 million project, while CVAG kicked in $2.8 million. The remainder of the project revenue comes from the Riverside County Transportation Commission, Union Pacific Railroad, Caltrans and the Public Utilities Commission.
The elevated roadway will connect Avenue 48 on the west with Dillon Road on the east, bypassing Grapefruit Blvd (aka Indio Blvd on the north side of the intersection) and the railroad tracks. This project will not only enhance Southern California goods movement along the railroad tracks, but it will eliminate a major delay for motorists.
Project completion is expected by the end of the year.
Mayors Eduardo Garcia and Lupe Ramos Watson represented the Cities of Coachella and Indio, respectively.
