'The First Tee' Program Teaches More Than Golf
It's designed to teach kids golf, sure. But The First Tee program is a lot more than that.
It's a nationwide program that made its debut in the Coachella Valley recently, and while the kids do get to learn about golf . . . The First Tee aims to provide an even more important set of lessons. It's about learning sportsmanship and about life lessons in the company of positive role models.
"We are excited to provide an opportunity to bring the game of golf and the life skills essential to the game of life to all children of the Coachella Valley," said Jan Hagan, Executive Director of The First Tee and Coachella Valley Recreation and Park District.
Kids from the Valley View elementary School were the first kids to test out the new program, and they were treated to a visit from a very famous positive role model: comedian George Lopez.
The First Tee costs only $100 per year per child and that includes everything: golf lessons, equipment, transportation. Low income families can qualify for an even lower cost.
