North Shore Considers Annexing to SCVCSD
The North Shore Community Council, an advisory group to Supervisor Roy Wilson, went on record as approving annexation to the Southern Coachella Valley Community Services District.
While the unanimous vote was strictly advisory in nature, it is an indication that the growing unincorporated community is interested in the CSD’s additional services, especially heightened law enforcement and trash services.
CSD Manager Glenn Crowson said that he has a meeting with the Local Agency Formation Commission to discuss the issue, and that he will consult with the SCVCSD Board to see if the board members want to pursue the addition of North Shore to the District.
Currently, the Southern Coachella Valley Community Services District collects an annual assessment to defray the costs of providing supplemental law enforcement for the Communities of Thermal, Oasis, Mecca, and Vista Santa Rosa. The current charges are $1.00 per acre; $20.00 minimum (regardless of acreage), plus $88.00 per Commercial use and/or $66.00 per habitable living unit (“ living unit”).
Funding for waste services is received from the franchise fee charged to the designated hauler contracted by the Board of Directors.
The North Shore Community Council represents the community of North Shore, and advises Fourth District Supervisor Roy Wilson on residents’ concerns. Currently, the council meets at 6 p.m. on the fourth Monday of every month at the community center on Corvina Drive. In April, however, the meeting day will switch to the third Monday of the month.
