Mecca Landfill Open for One Day Only, April 12

It’s only open two days per year, and the next opportunity for East Valley residents to get rid of bulky items at the Mecca Landfill is Saturday, April 12, from 8 a.m. till 4:30 p.m.

Residents will be able to get rid of “bulky waste,” which means stoves, refrigerators (with Freon removed), water tanks, water heaters, washing machines, furniture and the like. It does not include large tree stumps, oversize tires, railroad ties, burnt wood or ash residue. Tree stumps less than 200 lbs will be accepted and tires smaller than 4 feet in diameter will be accepted. Engine blocks? Well, you’re probably better off contacting an auto recycling yard.

Remember, this is one day only. The next opportunity will be Oct. 11. A current Riverside County Disposal Use Permit Card will be required. If you need one, you can purchase on in advance at the Oasis Landfill gate. Permits will also be sold at both facilities on April 12 for a minimum fee of $30 (check or money order only, no cash).

If you’d like more info, check the County of Riverside Waste Management Department website at www.rivcowm.org, or call 951 486-3200
