Supervisors Advance Blythe Animal Shelter, Indio Hills Center
The Riverside County Board of Supervisors today advanced two Fourth District projects and additional funding for the Salton Sea local restoration efforts.
The Supervisors authorized purchase of a 2.2 acre site in the City of Blythe for a new animal shelter at a cost of nearly $350,000. The new shelter will be located at 235 Carlton Avenue, replacing the antiquated facility on the Mesa on West Hobsonway.
Costs are funded through the Palm Desert Financing Authority, thus no additional net County costs will be required for the acquisition.
The Board also approved the Plans and Specifications for the construction of a new Indio Hills Community Center, and authorized advertising for bids on the project.
The old structure at 80-400 Dillon Road does not meet ADA or code requirements. The new facility will comprise 3,400 square feet on the existing 5-acre site.
The Supervisors also approved $25,000 in Community Improvement Designation Funds--$12,500 each from the Fourth and Fifth Districts-as the County’s share in maintaining the role of the Salton Sea Authority as the local voice in the ongoing fight to save the Sea.
The County of Riverside’s $25,000 contribution is to be matched by each of the other three original members of the Salton Sea Authority-the County of Imperial, the Imperial Irrigation District and the Coachella Valley Water District.
