"TOM" Goes to Riverside, Gets High Fives from the Board of Supervisors
Actually, it was pretty much TOM who was dishing out the high fives, but the Southern Coachella Valley Community Services District mascot certainly made a splash in the big city.
The occasion, at this week's Board meeting, was a ceremonial item in which the Supervisors recognized various organizations for their assistance in collecting illegally-disposed trash. TOM (which stands for Thermal Oasis Mecca) made the most of the occasion, and brightened up the proceedings. Which of course is the purpose of being a mascot in the first place.
The Supervisors awarded a certificate of appreciation to the Southern Coachella Valley Community Services District. The District, which services Thermal, Oasis, Mecca and Vista Santa Rosa, collected over 4,000 tons of trash in 2007 with their community clean-up programs and at their monthly collection activities at the TOM Site.
Present to accept the award for the District, TOM quickly won over the Supervisors and the audience, and even gave the Chairman of the Board, Fourth District Supervisor Roy Wilson, a hug.
The Southern Coachella Valley Community Services District also provides supplemental law enforcement and environmental services for the unincorporated area of the southern Coachella Valley. More information can be found on the District's website at www.SCVCSD.org.
