Next Thousand Palms Clean-up Scheduled

All Thousand Palms residents will be able to participate in the May 31 Clean-up Day event, in one of two ways: 1) Curbside pickup of bulky items, and 2) Hauling trash to the parking lot of Della Linley Elementary School on Robert Road.

Those participating in the curbside program must make an appointment with Burrtec at 340-2113 before Thursday, May 28 . . . and then just place items curbside before 5 a.m.

To participate in the Lindley School site haul-your-own program, you must show proof of residency (like a current driver’s license or utility bill). They’ll accept trash at the large roll-off bins from 8 a.m. till noon.

Bulky items which will be accepted include: washers, dryers, refrigerators, furniture, tree trimmings, electronic waste (televisions and computers) and microwaves. Items which will NOT be accepted include tires, paint, batteries, full or empty drums, motor parts, chemicals, brake fluids, motor oil, fertilizers, rodent poisons and other hazardous materials.

(For information about how to get rid of these more difficult materials, check out the ABOP (antifreeze, batteries, oil and paint) and Household Hazardous Waste collection information here  --> Household Hazardous Waste. That site, in case you got lost in it, has a list of HHW materials and events, and also includes ABOP information towards the end. Check here for that info -->Hazardous Materials & Schedules.

It’s a little more work, but it’s up to all of us to make sure that we dispose of household hazardous wastes responsibly.

May 31: Thousand Palms Clean-Up Day is the time to help spruce up the entire community. For more information on acceptable items/materials, contact Burrtec at 340-2113. If you need more information on the event itself, locations, etc., contact Betty Sanchez at 275-8242.
