Salton Sea to Celebrate 'Earth Day' Saturday, April 26
The Salton Sea State Recreation Area in North Shore will celebrate the grand opening of the newly-renovated Varner Harbor boat launch area, in conjunction with Earth Day on Saturday, April 26.
The public is invited to attend the celebration with free kayak mini tours of the Salton Sea beginning at 9 a.m., beach cleanup at 10, and the ribbon cutting on the harbor at 11.
There are lots of other activities and free refreshments, too.
The Salton Sea State Recreation Area conducts at "bird walk" every Sunday morning at 9 a.m. Don't forget-your bird must be on a leash. Just kidding, to see if you were paying attention. Even though the Snow Birds are gone, there is still an abundance of winged wildlife to observe at the Sea.
The Visitor Center will remain open this summer on weekends (Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. till 4 p.m.), and the Park is open year-round for picnicking, hiking, boating and fishing.
