Rivco Supervisors Proclaim ‘Child Abuse Prevention Month’

The Riverside County Board of Supervisors have proclaimed the month of April as Child Abuse Prevention Month, with the goal of increasing awareness of both the need and the services available to provide support to parents and children.

The County’s Child Abuse Hotline receives nearly 58,000 calls each year and that there are more than 5,000 children in foster care due to abuse and neglect.

“Child abuse impacts the entire community and finding solutions depends on community involvement to nurture healthy family growth and inspire future generations,” says Susan Loew, Director of the County’s Department of Public Social Services. “With all of us working together, we can make Riverside County a safer place for children.”

For more information about how you can help and the services that are available, go to http://dpss.co.riverside.ca.us/dpss/ . If you are concerned about a child, please contact the Child Abuse Hotline at 800-442-4918.

“Together,” says Loew, “We can prevent child abuse, one child at a time, one family at a time.”
