Senator Barbara Boxer took a tour of the Hidden Harvest facilities in Coachella today, and she was welcomed by Mayor Eduardo Garcia, his son Izel, Supervisor Roy Wilson and Christy Porter, executive director of Hidden Harvest. The Senator also presented an award to Christy, who is seen holding a plaque from the City of Coachella. Christy founded Hidden Harvest years ago to help battle hunger in the east valley, and she now provides not only food but full-time employment to farm workers who do the work at the non-profit institution.

Officials gather for dedication of new solar energy system at Ironwood State Prison west of Blythe. The 13-acre array compliments a system installed two years ago at nearby Chuckawalla Valley State Prison. Combined, the two solar power plants produce 2.34 megawatts of power.
