Nearly Two Dozen Apply for 'Desert Palms' Council
A total of 23 people applied for 5 positions on the newly-formed Desert Palms Community Council, which will advise Fourth District Supervisor Roy Wilson on a variety of issues in the Sun City Palm Desert area.
The boundaries of the council include territory on the north, south and southwest of the Sun City community (for a map of the boundaries, click here? DesertPalms.) These boundaries are no longer "proposed," but in fact official as a result of Board of Supervisors action on Tuesday, June 10.
I was hoping we would have 10 or 12 applicants for these positions," said Supervisor Wilson's Legislative Assistant Denys Arcuri. "And we have not only quantity here . . . we have quality as well."
Arcuri estimated that it will take another 10 days or so to interview all of the applicants. After that, the process of whittling the field down to five takes place . . . and from there the names will be submitted to the Board of Supervisors probably sometime in July.
The target date for the first meeting of the advisory panel is September, date, time and venue yet to be announced. At that first meeting, the Desert Palms Community Council will set its permanent meeting dates and venue.
