Rivco Trans Department Gets Attaboy From Mayor

flooding along Highway 111 in Cathedral City

Quick response by the Riverside Country Transportation Department during the recent flooding along Highway 111 in Cathedral City has elicited a letter of gratitude from that city’s mayor.

In a letter to Paul Russell, Highway Operations Superintendent for the County, Mayor Kathleen De Rosa praised the cooperative effort by the County.

“On behalf of the entire Cathedral City Council, I would like to thank you and the Riverside Transportation Department for your rapid response and professionalism in assisting our disaster response teams and the residents of the City of Cathedral City . . . during the rain and flood event that affected our community,” she wrote.

“As you are aware, our resources were stretched very think following the downpour in the Coachella Valley. If not for you assistance, our personnel would not have been available to respond to this local emergency.

“It is a great comfort to know that the Riverside County Transportation Department is a dependable partner in such times, and we truly appreciate and value this relationship.”

Transportation and Land Management Agency Director George Johnson was likewise appreciative of the City’s expression of gratitude.

“It is especially gratifying to receive such a thoughtful letter from the Mayor on behalf of the city council,” Johnson said.

The county had quickly deployed a street sweeper from the Transportation Department’s Thermal Road Maintenance Yard, and assisted with cleaning up the large amount of debris deposited on East Palm Canyon by the flash floods.

“We enjoy a very good, cooperative relationship with our cities and are glad we could respond to the request from Cathedral City for emergency assistance.” he said.
