This Year’s Palm Desert Golf Cart Parade Theme Announced

The winning entry was announced in the theme contest for the 44th Annual Palm Desert Golf Cart Parade. The theme for the 2008 Parade will be “Mardi Gras Desert Style”.

Mafi Neckelmann of Palm Desert explains why she entered this winning theme:

"It just came to me and I thought that we could all do so much with it. It’s happy and festive and I thought it would be prefect for the Golf Cart Parade. (The theme) gives the community freedom to decorate carts in many ways and it will be a blast to watch as well!"

Mafi Neckelmann, Education Specialist at the Living Desert, will get to ride in a V.I.P. spot at the beginning of the parade in a reserved cart and she also receives an official Palm Desert Golf Cart Parade polo shirt, plus a hearty hand clasp. Just kidding: But the biggest prize of all will be watching the entire parade in those green, purple and gold hues of the Mardi Gras celebration.

The Living Desert has an entry in the parade every year and Mafi says that their tradition will surely continue this year.

The parade committee looks forward to the Mardi Gras themed event. “In the 43 past years of the parade, it has not yet been done” says Parade Chairman Andy Brakebill. “We are excited to see the community’s creativity with their carts and floats and entries are now coming in.”

The Golf Cart Parade - The World Famous Palm Desert Golf Cart Parade originated in the early 60s, put together by several individuals who just wanted to have fun. Today, it has grown to more than 90 whimsically decorated golf carts, bands and dance groups, strolling down the beautiful El Paseo corridor and celebrating Palm Desert’s own unique golf community. Proceeds from this year’s parade benefit the local charity P.A.L. (Police Activities League) and on Sunday, October 26, 2008 the tradition continues with the 44th Annual Parade, presented by the Auen Foundation.

Now taking entry applications and the search begins for unique band entries, too. Can your office staff play the kazoo? For more info and to see last year’s slide show here: www.golfcartparade.com.
