County of Riverside Offers 'Sweat Equity' to Youth Groups
An innovative new program offered by the County of Riverside and Burrtec Industries promises to clean up blighted areas in the Coachella Valley and at the same time provide needed funding for local youth groups. Bona fide non-profit youth groups in the desert can qualify for up to $2,000 in funding for a Saturday morning cleanup utilizing the group’s own volunteers. Not only that, a group can commit to as many as three cleanups on specified weekends in the months of October, November, December, January, February, March, April and May.
This is an excellent opportunity to help clean up neighborhoods, to stress the ideals of voluntarism and community service, and at the same time provide support to youth groups.
The deadline for applying for this funding is September 30. Neighborhoods in Thousand Palms, Indio Hills, Sky Valley and Desert Edge are targeted in this effort, which is supported by funding from trash franchise fees.
If your group is a genuine 501 ©3 organization, if it serves local youth, and if it can use additional funding, contact Betty Sanchez at the Riverside County Code Enforcement office in Thousand Palms at 343-4636 for more information on this program and for help determining if your group is eligible. This program is sponsored by Supervisor Roy Wilson, the Riverside County Environmental Health and Code Enforcement Departments and Burrtec Industries.
