Radiothon to Raise Funds for Boys and Girls Clubs of the Desert

The Desert Radio Group, in partnership with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, is hosting a radiothon to raise money for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Coachella Valley.

The 2008 Boys & Girls Club radiothon will take place on Thursday Sept.18 from 6 a.m. till 6 p.m. Donations will be accepted at the following three locations:

  • U92.7 and 1270 La Voz will be at Carpet Empire Plus in Indio across from Mathis Brothers.
  • 93.7 KCLB and KNEWS Radio will be at Carpet Empire Plus in Cathedral City across from the Target shopping center.
  • The Eagle 106.9 and Team 1010 KXPS will be at Westfield Palm Desert on the 1st floor.
 

The Boys & Girls Clubs have been providing services for the youth of the Coachella Valley since 1948. Clubs are currently located in Cathedral City, Coachella, Desert Hot Springs, Indio, La Quinta and Palm Springs. The Boys & Girls Clubs serve more than 10,000 young people throughout the Coachella Valley today.

In addition to a trained professional staff, the Boys & Girls Cub employs credentialed teachers to provide homework assistance and other educational services in classes that are conducted until 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. There are over 30 national programs such as the Dress for Success Program,Young Entrepreneurs Program, and art programs that include photography, arts and crafts and theatre. The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Desert Communities also provide programs that teach young people character & leadership, education and career development, health and life skills, the arts and sports, and fitness & recreation, providing alternatives to drugs, gang membership, youth crime and other negative influences that effect our youth today.

All of the Clubs are presently undergoing major projects. The Palm Springs Club has a capital campaign to build a multi-purpose center. Cathedral City is putting in a fitness center and the city of Desert Hot Springs Club is exploring the feasibility on a new club building and possibly even a new aqua center.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Coachella Valley are raising funds towards the construction of a 9,000 square foot Teen Center adjacent to the existing Indio club. They’re also in the midst of a capital campaign to raise $3 million in monetary funds to operate a new 30,000 square foot, full service center in the town of Mecca in collaboration with the County of Riverside.
