Coachella Valley Housing Coalition Awarded $15 Million Plus

The Indio-based Coachella Valley Housing Coalition (CVHC) has announced the award of $15,683,587 in State and Federal Affordable Housing Tax Credits to construct a new Farm worker Manufactured Home Park in Mecca. This rental project will provide permanent housing for farm workers and their families in the Eastern Coachella Valley.
Construction on this 53 unit development which includes a community center, after- school computer learning center, tot lots and more, is expected to commence before the end of the year. This development was the only Inland Empire project to receive an award in the 2008 California Tax Credit Allocation Committee First Round Rural Set Aside competition.
CVHC is partnering with the Riverside County Economic Development Administration, which also is providing funds for this complex.
“This much needed project for local hard working farm worker families is yet another example of the collaboration between the County of Riverside and CVHC in providing affordable housing to special needs families in Riverside County” said John Mealey, CVHC Executive Director, who also noted that the project is supported by the Mecca Community Council.
Other lenders providing funding for this project include the United States Department of Agriculture Rural Housing Program Fund, Wells Fargo Bank, and the State of California’s Housing and Community Development Joe Serna Farm worker Program.

Located in Indio, the Coachella Valley Housing Coalition is a nationally known award winning non-profit housing development corporation dedicated to helping low and very-low income families improve their living conditions through advocacy, research, construction, and operation of housing and community development projects. CVHC has constructed more than 3,000 homes and apartments for low income households in Riverside and Imperial Counties.
