Fall Semester at COD Brings Heavy Traffic, Record Enrollment

With enrollments up about 6.8%, more than 11,000 students converged on the College of the Desert Campus this week for the start of the Fall Semester at COD.

Motorists found a campus under heavy construction, with some streets and walkways barricaded for safety reasons, but there was plenty of signage at intersections to guide motorists to open parking lots. The college is undergoing a massive reconstruction project on existing facilities. Two new buildings are also under construction.

As in previous years, COD is providing Welcome Tents designed to provide way-finding information for students during the first few days of classes. They are staffed by members of the COD leadership team including the President and four Vice Presidents. Each information station offers materials to help guide students to the right classroom and other campus resources.

In addition to filling up classrooms, COD set a record for online classes, with more than 2,100 enrollments.

Students can still register late for some classes, with faculty approval, through next week. Registration information is on the website: www.collegeofthedesert.edu
