California Coastal Commission event to take place at North Shore Yacht Club

A harbor cleanup is planned for November 8th at the North Shore Yacht Club in conjunction with the California Coastal Commission's 2008 Coastal Cleanup. This is a kickoff event in preparation for the Yacht Club renovation due to begin this spring and is a first time event for the Yacht Club in North Shore.

Site Captain for the event is Jennie Kelly, a local historian and community leader. She can be reached at 760-393-1312 or at evhistoricalsociety@earthlink.net. Those wishing to participate as a volunteer for this event are asked to contact Jennie. "We are also seeking donations of water and snacks or lunch from valley businesses for volunteers" says Kelly.

Immediately following the first annual California Coastal Commission beach cleanup in North Shore and a simultaneous one on the West Shore, there will be an event organized by Rick Davis of local grass roots organization Restore the Salton Sea and Ingrid Vigeant who is from San Diegan’s for the Salton Sea.

Both Davis and Vigeant have held rehydration events in the past, and are joining forces this year to hold simultaneous events on opposite sides of the Salton Sea.

"The purpose of this symbolic rehydration event is to bring attention to the plight of the Salton Sea and make a statement that we wish to see the Sea restored and the integrity of its visual beauty maintained" states Vigeant.

Participants are asked to bring a gallon of water to pour into the Sea as a symbol of our wishes for its continued survival.  Flower petals to caste on the Sea are also welcome.

The West shore event will be held at Johnson’s Landing in Salton City. Simply look for their sign off either North or South Marina Dr.

The North Shore rehydration event will be held at the North Shore Yacht Club harbor. Both events are scheduled for 12:30p.m. on Saturday the 8th of November following the dual cleanups.

For further information on this part of the event, contact Rick Davis at 760-394-4256 or Ingrid Vigeant at 619-231-7456 or at alcazar_11@cox.net.
