Sheriffs Department to Crack Down on Illegal Firearm Activities

The Riverside County Sheriffs Department will be increasing their patrol to deal with a zero tolerance for illegal shooting of firearms into the air during this holiday season. The intent of this zero tolerance patrol and prosecution of all violators is to reduce the number injuries and deaths from stray bullets. Deputies in the county areas and officers in our contract cities will arrest and prosecute all individuals that are located discharging firearms during this holiday season.

Field Manager John Kalish of the Bureau of Land Management addresses the crowd on hand during inclement weather for this morning’s unveiling of billboards informing the public that off-road vehicle use on the open desert in Riverside County is illegal. Four new billboards are being erected to get that message across… and in the meantime, the County of Riverside is advancing plans to locate, acquire and develop an OHV park so that off-road enthusiasts will have an open place to pursue their recreational use of OHV vehicles.

New Billboards Publicize OHV Ban on Open Desert

Riverside County Sheriff Stan Sniff, Cathedral City Police Chief Stan Henry and Bureau of Land Management Field Director John Kalish were on hand this morning to take the wraps off of one of the new billboards designed to curtail illegal off roading activity in the Coachella Valley. This mornings unveiling ceremony took place near a sign located on Expressway 86, facing northbound traffic at Avenue 50.

Area VIPs gather for the traditional groundbreaking ceremony for the new Sheriff’s station on Gerald Ford Drive in northern Palm Desert. The new $33 million facility will greatly expand the sheriff department’s operational capabilities, including provisions for evidence storage and a heliport. New Billboards to Publicize OHV Ban on Open Desert

The Coachella Valley Association of Governments Off-Highway Vehicle Task Force has announced the unveiling of billboards along the I-10 and Expressway 86 corridors designed to raise awareness of illegal off-highway vehicle use on desert lands.
