Dirt Turns Monday on New Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station

Fourth District Supervisor Roy Wilson and Riverside County Sheriff Stan Sniff will man golden shovels for the groundbreaking on a new Riverside County Sheriff’s Department patrol station Monday, Dec. 8 at 10:30 a.m.

The 86,000 square foot facility will be built on a 10-acre site on Gerald Ford Drive in Palm Desert.  It will serve the Cities of Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage, and Indian Wells, as well as the unincorporated communities of Thousand Palms, Desert Edge, Sky Valley, North Palm Springs and Joshua Tree National Park.

The single story building will house administration and offices, an evidence storage building, central utility plant, fuel station, and heliport.

“The existing facility in Palm Desert Civic Center just doesn’t have the space for a Sheriff’s Department which has grown with the increase of population here in the Coachella Valley,” Supervisor Wilson said.

“This is going to be a great, state-of-the-art addition to the Sheriff’s public safety efforts here in the desert.”

The new sheriff’s station is a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)-accredited facility.

The ceremony will take place on Monday, December 8 th, at 10:30 am. The location is 73-700 Gerald Ford Drive, Palm Desert.
