Did you know?
- The Desert Training Center has a significant role in the defeat of Nazi Germany, fascist Italy and imperialist Japan during World War II:
- More than 1.8 million U.S. soldiers readied for combat at the facility.
- Twenty of the 87 divisions in the Army used in WWII trained in the desert.
- The 4 th and 6 th Armored Divisions, led by Gen. George S. Patton Jr., spearheaded his “race across France” following D-day in 1944. They were critical to the decisive Battle of the Bulge that pushed the Germans back in Belgium. Both divisions trained extensively at the Desert Training Center.
- Desert-trained troops also distinguished themselves in North Africa and elsewhere in Europe and the Pacific Theater.
