Palm Springs Antiques Roadshow Episodes Begin Airing Jan. 5

Highlighting the popularity of using the visually stunning City of Palm Springs as a location for magazine, film and television shoots -- three episodes filmed earlier this year of the PBS series “Antiques Roadshow” will begin airing next week.

More than 5,000 people gathered at the Palm Springs Convention Center in June for record-breaking appraisals of their heirlooms and treasures. The three Palm Springs episodes will air Jan. 5, Jan. 12, and Jan. 19 on KCET at 8 p.m.

Episode will feature the most valuable object ever appraised on the Roadshow -- a 1937 oil painting by noted American abstract artist Clyfford Still, received by the guest as a housewarming gift, and conservatively estimated to be worth $500,000.

Episode will feature the ultimate little black dress – literally sewn onto Marilyn Monroe for the classic 1959 Billy Wilder comedy “Some Like It Hot,” valued at between $150,000 to $250,000.

Episode will feature a circa 1922 oil painting of a colourful fish by Modernist painter Joseph Stella, given in lieu of rent by the artist to owner’s Great Uncle and valued at $250,000. “We’re thrilled Palm Springs was used as the backdrop for one of PBS’s most popular shows – and we hope our residents will take advantage of this opportunity to see their hometown showcased,” said Sharon Heider, who handles television and film permits as the City’s Director of Parks and Recreation.

“It’s just another example of how Palm Springs is a great location for producing television, film and magazine shoots.”

Recent productions that have filmed in Palm Springs include the popular Gene Simmons reality series “Family Jewels” on A&E, ABC’s “The Bachelorette” as well as Tom Cruise’s “Mission Impossible” and most recently the independent film “Shoot the Hero,” produced by Coachella Valley resident Denise DuBarry Hay.
