Rivco Residents Helped Take a Bite Out of Hunger During Holidays
The collaborative efforts of Riverside County and Stater Bros. Supermarkets—along with the generous support of County residents and Stater Bros. shoppers—provided some extra holiday cheer in the form of non-perishable food for thousands of Riverside County residents.
Riverside County spearheaded the Inaugural “Riverside County Food Drive” - Take a Bite Out of Hunger campaign which ran from Nov. 5 through Jan. 5.
With the current state of the economy, food banks have experienced a rising need for food, and the County drive was designed to meet at least part of the deficiency.
There were two ways to get involved. The website www.rcfooddrive.org was available for monetary donations. For every $5 donated, the partnering food banks were able to generate $125 worth of food.
At the close of the food drive, Riverside County collected $5,693, which in reality means that $142,250 worth of food will be contributed to help fill the Riverside County food pantries.
Secondly, 46 Stater Bros. Supermarkets filled 228 of the 55-gallon food bins provided by Riverside County. That adds up to 12,540 gallons of food!
Without much thought, people found that it was not difficult to donate regardless of their own economic crisis. The Riverside County Board of Supervisors would like to thank everyone whosupported this food drive. With everyone’s efforts, hundreds of families are able to enjoy healthy, nourishing meals. This will be an annual food drive, and we hope for continuous support from Riverside County residents next year.
