Palm Springs Court House is Back in Business Jan. 20

Fourth District Supervisor Roy Wilson will be among the featured speakers when the refurbished Palm Springs Courthouse is the site of an official reopening celebration Tuesday, Jan. 20 at 5:30 p.m. Presiding Judge Thomas Cahraman will act as master of ceremonies.

The county-owned courthouse, located across from City Hall at 3255 E. Tahquitz Canyon Way, underwent extensive renovation and reopened Jan. 5 with one judge hearing probate cases.

“Two additionally refurbished courtrooms are expected to open in the coming weeks -- with retired judges hearing misdemeanor and out of custody felony cases,” said Cahraman.

The courthouse has been closed to the public since July 2003.

“The renovation and re-opening continues the court's efforts to provide greater access to the county’s litigants,” said Supervisor Wilson. “This is a great addition to the court’s ability to serve citizens of the Coachella Valley.”

Other guest speakers at the celebration include former Presiding Judge Richard T. Fields, Judge Harold Hopp, Supervising Judge for the court’s desert region, and Matt H. Morris, President-elect of the Riverside County Desert Bar Association. Dignitaries from the County’s Executive Office and Facilities Management Department will also be on hand.

“The Coachella Valley has needed a second courthouse for some time… so the addition of three more working courtrooms in Palm Springs is tremendous,” said Mayor Steve Pougnet. “The City is thrilled the Courthouse is back in action and open for business once again.”
