Supervisors Give Green Light to East Valley Mobile Home Park
The Riverside County Board of Supervisors has authorized “fast track” status to a proposed 61-acre, 398-unit mobile home park in the East Valley. The project would bring much needed affordable housing to the region, and is seen as a possible partial solution to the Desert Mobile Home Park problem.
Desert Mobile Home Park, also known as Duroville, is a substandard development currently facing possible closure, and that closure if and when it comes threatens to make a few thousand lower income residents homeless.
Mountain View Mobile Home Park, located west of Polk Street and south of Avenue 68 in Oasis, would entail two phases—the first of which would be approximately 181 units. The remainder of the units would be built during the second phase, which is dependent upon finding federal funding sources. It’s this second phase which would likely become home to many of Duroville’s current residents.
The project requires a zone change from Light Agriculture (A-1-10) to Residential Incentive (R-6).
From the agenda item: “The Housing Element of the Riverside County General Plan has identified the need for affordable housing as one of the most significant housing problems in the County of Riverside. It is the intent of the Board of Supervisors in enacting the R-6 Zone to establish a specialized zone that will, through incentives and consideration of a specific housing proposal in connection with a proposed zone change, facilitate construction of affordable housing.
The new park would feature an accessory community building, recreation areas and other amenities.
