College of the Desert Offers Two Summer Sessions For 2009
It’s not too early to begin thinking of the summer session at College of the Desert, with priority registration beginning May 6.
Actually, students have two opportunities to attend classes at College of the Desert this summer. Sessions lasting six and eight weeks both begin June 15 at COD. The college has scheduled 246 classes in a wide range of subjects that will be offered at the main campus in Palm Desert, in Indio, and at the newest campus site in Mecca-Thermal.
“Summer is a good opportunity for students to catch up on credits toward graduation or certificate completion,” said John Loera, Dean of Enrollment Services. Loera said cancellation of some earlier classes has led some students to ask if the summer session is being cancelled.
“College of the Desert will be open this summer,” Loera said.
The six-week courses run through July 23, while eight-week sessions will end Aug. 6.
Registration for summer classes opens Wednesday May 6 on a priority basis for returning students who have already earned enough credits to qualify for early enrollment. Open enrollment for new students begins May 18. New students should apply now at www.cccapply.org.
In addition to courses offered at Palm Desert, the Eastern Valley Center in Indio has a summer program offering nine credit classes in such subjects as English, History, Speech, Psychology and Math. At the new Mecca-Thermal Campus, there are four credit classes offered this summer in English, Reading, Math and Psychology. Both sites also offer non-credit English as a Second Language classes. In addition to traditional classroom courses, the college also offers 27 online courses this summer.
