'Guns and Hoses' Event Set for Wednesday at PS Convention Center
In an effort to raise funds for fallen peace officers and their families during National Peace Officers Week, public safety officers from around the country will battle for the bragging rights to be known as America’s toughest public servant – as part of a one-on-one competitive grappling event called “Guns & Hoses.”
The competition, slated from 7 to 10 p.m. Wednesday, May 13 at the Palm Springs Convention Center, 277 N. Avenida Caballeros will pit police officers against firefighters – with the victor receiving a defendable championship belt and a $500 purse.
The competition will include five bouts – including Palm Springs police officer Mike Barredo, in the lightweight division.
“I encourage everyone in the Coachella Valley to come out and support our public safety officers,” said the event’s organizer Palm Springs police Sgt. Troy Castillo. “It should be a fun and exciting night and it’s all for a good cause.”
Additionally, a 10 p.m. after hours party is planned at the Village Pub in Downtown Palm Springs, Castillo said.
General admission tickets are $20 and ringside seats are $40. For more information or to purchase tickets visit the Palm Springs Police Officer’s Association Web site at
Tickets can also be purchased in the front lobby of the Palm Springs Police Department, 200 S. Civic Drive.
