Supervisor Wilson and Jamil Dada to Receive WRCOG Awards

The Western Riverside Council of Governments (WRCOG) has named Riverside County Supervisor Roy Wilson as its the 2009 recipient of the “Norton Younglove Air Quality Award” for outstanding efforts to improve air quality in Riverside County. Local businessman Jamil Dada, has also been honored with WRCOG’s “Patricia Ann Wilson Award” for outstanding community service.

Roy Wilson, Riverside County 4th District Supervisor, and Jamil Dada, past Chair of the Riverside County Workforce Development Board, will receive awards of excellence during the 18th General Assembly meeting of the Western Riverside Council of Governments (WRCOG) on June 25.

Supervisor Wilson was named by WRCOG’s Executive Committee as the recipient of the 2009 “Norton Younglove Air Quality Award” for outstanding contributions to the achievement of healthy clean air in Western Riverside County. Wilson has served on the Governing Board of the South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD) since 1987, first representing the cities of Riverside County. Since 1995 he has represented the County of Riverside, and currently serves as the Governing Board’s Vice Chairman. AQMD is the air pollution control agency for all of Orange County and the urban portions of Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernardino counties. The Agency is regarded by air quality experts as being at the forefront of the nation’s emission reduction efforts, and its track record for improving air quality in Southern California during the past few decades is impressive.

This is the 15th year that the award has been presented.

“Improving air quality in Riverside County is vital for the physical, environmental and economic health of the Inland Empire and the desert region,” said Wilson. “While it’s an honor to receive this award, there is still much work to be done to clean the air. I look forward to keeping air quality at the top of the region’s environmental and economic agendas.”

Jamil Dada, Vice-President of Investment Services for Provident Bank, has been selected to receive WRCOG’s annual award for “Outstanding Community Service.” Dada is a long time member and past Chairman of the Riverside County Workforce Development Board. He is also a Governor Schwarzenegger appointee to the California Workforce Investment Board, and President of the National Association of Workforce Boards. Dada’s resume is rounded out through his local involvement as Chairman of the March Field Air Museum, past Chair of the Moreno Valley Chamber of Commerce, and as a board member of the Riverside Community College District’s foundation. He also is a member of Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack’s military academy selection committee.

Wilson and Dada will receive their awards during the 18th Annual General Assembly meeting of the Western Riverside Council of Governments (WRCOG) on June 25th at the Morongo Casino, Resort & Spa. Three-time Presidential candidate Pat Buchanan will be the keynote speaker at the General Assembly meeting.
