When They Say ‘Large Load,” They Aren’t Kidding

Bigge Crane and Transport will be moving a large load through the Coachella Valley on its way from the Port of Long Beach to its final destination on the California/Arizona border. The trip is scheduled to take place during the evening hours sometime next week. Don’t plan on being passed by this monster—top speed is estimate at 5 miles per hour.

While the crane company is maintaining it must have flexibility in moving the huge nuclear reactor cap on Southern California, the current guesstimate for when the load will move through Palm Springs streets is after midnight, Tuesday morning June 23.

The huge piece of machinery is completely inert and has no nuclear or other hazardous materials. Its final destination is the Palo Verde Nuclear plant in Arizona.

Due to the load's height, the transporter will be required to travel down the wrong side of I-10 from just west of the Highway 111 eastbound on ramp. The transporter will then cross back onto the proper side of Highway 111 at Snow Creek and travel south to Racquet Club, east to Farrell Drive and south back to Highway 111 (Vista Chino). The load will then travel east on 111 (Vista Chino) to Gene Autry Trail and then north to I-10.

Traffic will be stopped while the transporter is traveling on the wrong side of the road. The load's height will also require that the transporter cross the centerline at each traffic signal location along their route. While the speed is about 5 miles per hour, it’s much slower on the turns! Hopefully, the move will be accomplished during the wee hours of the night.

The California Highway Patrol's Border Division will be escorting the transporter to make sure that City infrastructure and public motorists are kept safe.
