‘Playground of the Stars’ is 2009 Golf Cart Parade Theme

The winning theme in the 2009 Golf Cart Parade theme contest is “Playground of the Stars,” submitted by Craig and Dee Dee Michaels.

“Dee Dee and I choose the theme, ‘Playground of the Stars’ because of the rich history the Coachella Valley has with celebrities,” said Craig. “The Desert has been known as the "Playground of the Stars" since the early 1950's.

“It was not uncommon to see names like Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, and Marilyn Monroe in the restaurants and clubs. Today, it is still a destination for many celebrities…”

The Theme Contest winners will get to ride in a V.I.P. spot at the beginning of the parade in a reserved cart and they also receive official Palm Desert Golf Cart Parade polo shirts.  But the biggest prize of all—shared by everyone who attends— will be watching the entire parade, from floats to carts to dance groups to bands, all smartly dressed to the nines, “Playground of the Stars” celebrity style!

The Michaels’ “Musical Affair Entertainment” has been a participant in the parade for a few years now, offering games and entertainment in the children’s area on Larkspsur.  They’ll continue the tradition again this year.

Craig and Dee Dee actually entered a few different themes for the annual contest and the planning committee carefully selected this one from the eighty plus entries.

The parade committee looks forward to the “Playground of the Stars” themed event:

“We are so excited about the fun possibilities of this years’ theme “Playground of the Stars,” says Parade Chairman Lisa Slam of the Building Industry Association.  “It is the 45 th year of the Parade and a great opportunity to remember how our desert communities came to be in existence.

“There is something for everyone at the Palm Desert Golf Cart Parade.”

Thanks to Eisenhower Medical Center, Parade organizers will be able to bring in a lot more seniors in a special shaded seating area along with reserved parking. . . not to mention that the children’s area will continue to be the life of the party, chock full of interactive activities for the younger set.

Mark your calendar: this year’s Parade is set for October 25 on El Paseo in beautiful downtown Palm Desert.

Entry forms can be printed out from www.golfcartparade.com or picked up from the Palm Desert Chamber of Commerce, the City of Palm Desert and the Palm Desert Visitors Center.
