Progress Coming to Mesa Verde Community Near Blythe

A new water system.  New pavement.  And now a new community center.

These are a few of the big improvements that have recently come to Mesa Verde, a community of about 1,200 residents on “the mesa” just west of Blythe.

It’s more improvements than the community has seen for quite awhile, and longtime resident Max Schoenrock, a member of the Mesa Verde Community Council, is excited about it.

“The roads on the west side of Mesa Drive have their first real pavement ever,” said Schoenrock.  “And now the east side has fresh pavement also.”

“We are really seeing some major improvements.  Hopefully, this is going to translate into a renewed interest in participating in our community council meetings and other Mesa Verde events".

The water project involves the upgrading of the water lines on the western portion of Mesa Verde. The project is to be funded with the Blythe RDA proceeds remaining after the Mesa Verde/Blythe AP pipeline project. Pipeline construction on the south side of I-10 is complete. Well drilling on the north side of I-10 is complete. Construction is complete on a 1 million-gallon reservoir. Phase two transmission pipeline on north side of Interstate 10 completed May 2009.  Design of water treatment facility is under way with completion expected this fall.

And one of the most visible of improvements: the Mesa Verde Community and Child Care Center is currently out to bid, with construction start expected this fall.  The architect’s cost estimate for the construction is a little over $2 million . . . and the ribbon cutting is expected in late winter of next year.

The Desert Alliance for Community Empowerment is also pitching in on the improvements.  The DACE park on Nichols Road is going to see some major upgrades in the near future, including lawn work, shade structures, barbecues, tables and benches.  The non-profit organization is also looking to attract some small businesses to parcel of land that is home to the community center, on the northwest corner of Pepper and Mesa.
