Supervisors Set Hearing to Assume Palo Verde Cemetery Operations
In accordance with the wishes of the Palo Verde Cemetery District and the public present at the last public meeting of the District, the Riverside County Board of Supervisors Tuesday agreed to assume operation of the Cemetery.
Specifically, the Board adopted a resolution which serves notice of the Board’s intent to appoint itself as the Board of Trustees of the District, to schedule a public hearing on the matter in Riverside Tuesday, July 21, and to direct the Clerk of the Board to publish notice of the meeting.
Months of struggling by a small army of volunteers—including the three members of the new Palo Verde Cemetery District Board of Trustees—convinced the District that the County aid was needed.
County officials have assured the local community that the day-to-day operations of the Cemetery will be overseen by the members of the current District Board—Doris Morgan, Richard Phepps and Beatrice “Quitty” Piñon—who will remain as an advisory panel to the Board of Supervisors. The County, in turn, will provide additional management oversight and grounds keeping personnel and equipment as needed to maintain the Cemetery.
