August Challenges Find Food Bank; Agua Caliente Donate $5,000

Keeping the hungry fed is the sole mission of FIND Food bank, supplying some 95 agencies throughout the valley which distribute to the needy.

The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians has donated $5,000 to FIND Food as part of the Tribe’s ongoing philanthropic endeavors in the Coachella Valley. The grant will help pay for the purchase of food staples, says Executive Director (check) Sam Hook.

“We’re continuing to see an increasing number of folks who need food,” said Hook. “While we’re doing the best we can, we always see an increase in August, and demand is up 22 percent.”

The organization recently suffered an office fire which damaged the Perez Road building that houses the food bank’s administration, reportedly leaving food supplies untouched. The donation, unrelated to the fire, is part of the Tribe’s ongoing philanthropic outreach to community and civic organizations which are selected for their good works.

“FIND Food Bank has done such a marvelous job helping people through these tough times, and even with the recent fire, they have kept going,” said Tribal Chairman Richard M. Milanovich. “We have great admiration for their perseverance and their noble work on behalf of the poor and needy.”

The food bank continues to take donations of canned goods or money, which can be made to 68615 Perez Road, Suite 14B, Cathedral City, CA  92234.
