Rivco OTC Races for Train Car Biz and Electric Auto Plant
Riverside County team members met with Korean business officials in the City of Sacramento last week to discuss the opportunity for Riverside County to be a manufacturing and logistical base for a Bullet Train proposed to be built between Los Angeles and San Francisco. The meeting, held in the historic Governors office of the Leland Stanford mansion, matched Korean business leaders and rail experts with cabinet secretaries from state agencies and the Riverside County Office of Foreign Trade.
" Riverside County was the only Southern Califorina County present at the meetings" said Tom Freeman of the EDA Office of Foreign trade.
The five hour meeting yielded solid contacts with Korean business leaders, as well as officials from the South Koreas rail system "Korail". Rail cars for the proposed Bullet Train could easily be manufactured and assembled in the County of Riverside and hundreds of jobs created in building the cars would be generated. Riverside County Economic Development Agency team members are also courting a South Korean based e zone electric vehicle manufacturer. E Zone electric cars are the only low speed vehicles (LSVs) that meet or exceed U.S. crash test standards. The entry level unit sells for about $7,000.
Vehicles could be manufactured in South Korea and assembled in plants in either the Palm Springs Foreign Trade Zone or the March Joint Powers Authority Trade Zone. Final deal points and contractual arrangements are ongoing between the manufacturer and a Riverside County based private firm.
"We are looking at creating jobs and being the leader in California in green technology and transportation" said Tom Freeman of the EDA Office of Foreign Trade.
