Palm Springs Ranks # 2 on Money Magazine ‘Top 25’ List
The City of Palm Springs was recently chosen by Money Magazine and CNN Money.com as one of the best places to live and retire in 2009.
Palm Springs, with a population of 48,000, was ranked number two on the list.
The magazine noted that 42 percent of the City’s population is over 50 years old and that a three-bedroom home can be purchased for just about $250,000.
“It’s easy to see the appeal of living in the desert town beloved by Frank Sinatra’s Rat Pack. Residents get 332 days of annual sunshine – 360-degree views of the mountains -- and as much culture and design as they can pack in,” the magazine reported.
In addition, the magazine noted that residents can enjoy landmark mid-century modern architecture by the likes of legendary architects Richard Neutra and Albert Frey -- along with “ movies galore” during the annual Palm Springs International Film Festival, and the highest quality of paintings and sculpture in the spectacular 125,000 square-foot Palm Springs Art Museum.
“It’s no surprise that the City of Palm Springs was chosen by Money Magazine and CNN Money.com as one of the best places to live and retire in the country,” said Mayor Steve Pougnet. “With our spectacular mountain views, year-round sunshine, relaxed desert lifestyle and affordable living -- Palm Springs truly is a paradise.”
