Mecca-Thermal Classes Start Sept. 28, Few Seats Left
College of the Desert's (COD) East Valley Campus at Mecca- Thermal, which just opened this past February, will start its first Fall semester with nearly 400 students enrolled. All the credit courses are filled to capacity already, except for one class (Math 66) which has a handful of seats left.
Non-credit classes, such as English as a Second language, are still open for enrollment.
COD offered 12 credit classes this semester, compared to eight when the new interim campus opened in the Spring.
Mecca-Thermal is on a 12-week semester which means all the classes are designated as "late-starting." COD's main campus and centers in Indio and Palm Springs all opened Aug. 31. Mecca-Thermal's classes are longer to make up the difference; course hours and instruction are the same and students at Mecca-Thermal will finish at the same time as students on other COD campuses (Dec. 17 and 18). Classes at the new site are offered Monday through Thursday. The facility is closed on Fridays.
The East Valley Campus had 270 enrollments in the spring; they expect to exceed 400 by the time they open on Sept. 28.
