Palm Desert Cart Parade to Feature First Ever Community Float
The 2009 Palm Desert Golf Cart Parade will feature a first-ever Community Float thanks to the sponsorship of The Auen Foundation. For the second consecutive year, The Auen Foundation is also the 2009 Presenting Parade Sponsor.
This year’s 45 th Annual Golf Cart Parade, titled “Playground of the Stars,” will take place on Sunday, Oct. 25.
The Auen Foundation sponsorship, awarded to the Palm Desert Chamber of Commerce, will enable the cooperative talents of widely different generations to demonstrate arts and crafts in mobile form. Members of the Palm Desert High School Dance Team, Joslyn Senior Center, and the Palm Desert Golf Cart Parade Planning Committee will work together in the design and construction of the Community Float.
“The Palm Desert Golf Cart Parade offers something for everyone in a joyous and festive atmosphere, and we’re proud and honored to be a part of such a beloved and intergenerational community event,” says Catharine Reed, Senior Program Officer, The Auen Foundation.
Palm Desert Golf Cart Parade Chair Lisa Slam of the Building Industry Association says the first-ever Community Float will be an inspirational addition to this year’s event. The volunteers working on the design of the Community Float are looking forward to the challenge.
The Palm Desert High School Dance Team’s participation is a perfect fit, according to Team Captain Natalia Caronna.
“The community gives so much to us year after year and we are always looking for ways to pay them back and say thank you,” says Caronna. “We enjoy helping and performing for the people of the Valley. We live for dance and for helping others.”
Slam, along with a team of volunteer planners are gearing up for another successful parade event in which businesses, families and neighbors come together to enjoy a cavalcade of creatively designed and decorated golf carts and floats.

The Auen Foundation - The Auen Foundation is a private, family foundation established by Ron and Sherrie Auen in 1992. The Auen Foundation funds innovative programs designed to enrich the lives of the elderly, or to bridge the gap between the older and younger generations by supporting intergenerational programs. The Golf Cart Parade - The World Famous Palm Desert Golf Cart Parade originated in the early 60s, put together by several individuals who just wanted to have fun. Today, it has grown to more than 90 whimsically decorated golf carts, bands and dance groups, strolling down the beautiful El Paseo corridor and celebrating Palm Desert’s own unique golf community.
