Blythe Landfill to be Open One Saturday Per Month

In an effort to improve efficiency at the County Sanitary Landfill, the Riverside County Board of Supervisors has approved a plan which would reduce Saturday services. Beginning January 2, the Landfill will only be open on the first Saturday of each month. Previously, the dump was open every Saturday.

A front view of the new Roy Wilson Fire Station, taken from Robert Road, shows that the facility is almost complete. The new facility will be ready for occupancy by firefighters by this weekend, and a Grand Opening ceremony is planned for Saturday, Nov. 14.

Roy Wilson Fire Complex in Thousand Palms Ready for Duty

The Roy Wilson Fire Station and Training Center in Thousand Palms is nearing operational status, and a Grand Opening for the public is slated for the second Saturday, Nov. 14. The festivities are due to get under way at 10 a.m., at the fire station on the corner of Ramon and Robert Roads in downtown Thousand Palms.

A Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event is scheduled on Saturday, Oct. 31, from 9 a.m. till 2 p.m. at the Riverside County Administration Center located at 260 North Broadway Street in Blythe. The collection event is open to all Riverside County residents.

Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza Event Boosts Family YMCA of the Desert

Instead of cooking this Wednesday night, Coachella Valley residents and visitors are encouraged to visit Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza for dinner. Twenty percent of the proceeds from all dinner checks will be donated by the Ladeki Group, owner of Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza, to the Family YMCA of the Desert.

Helping to ensure the groundwater supply of the Coachella Valley for years to come is the newly-christened “Thomas E. Levy Groundwater Replenishment Facility” on the west end of Avenue 62. In the top photo, the new $4.4 million facility’s namesake Tom Levy (left) poses with Steve Robbins, his successor as General Manager/Chief Engineer of the Coachella Valley Water District. Middle photo shows the plumbing inside the facility, which can recharge up to 40,000 acre feet of water annually. Finally, State Senator John Benoit, ironically struggling with water woes in Sacramento, made the trek to the southeastern Coachella Valley to participate in the festivities.
